BBMGA & MELTON MOWBRAY MARKET -
PEDIGREE BREEDING STOCK SHOW AND SALE
The BBMGA is thrilled to announce that we will be hosting our second annual Pedigree Show and Sale of Boer and Meat Goats at Melton Mowbray Market on the 7th of September, 2024. The sale is due to run alongside Melton Mowbray Market's Pedigree Multi-Breed Sheep Sale, allowing breeders to reach a wider audience of buyers as a result.

The sale is open to all breeders / keepers of pedigree Boer and Meat Goats. As part of the sale, a Pedigree Show will also be held with rosettes for stock that best meet the breed standard for their respective section.

FAQs
Q1. What is the purpose of the sale?
The sale at Melton Mowbray is a pedigree breeding stock sale, meaning that all stock entered into the sale should be suitable
for breeding. For example, the stock must have no cull defects as per the BBMGA's Boer breed standards.
Q2. Can I enter non-BBMGA stock into this sale?
Absolutely! The sale is open to all pedigree Boer and Meat Goat stock, although if your goats are not registered with the
BBMGA, you will need to bring a copy of your pedigree certificate to verify that the animals are pedigree. Any animals
that are entered without having a pedigree certificate may be denied entry into the sale.
Q3. How will CAE-accredited and non-CAE accredited stock
be managed?
CAE-accredited and non-CAE accredited stock are penned separately. CAE-accredited stock will be sold prior to non-CAE accredited stock.
Q4. Can I enter Scrapie monitored stock into the sale?
Scrapie monitored stock can be entered into the sale, but due to the rules of the Scrapie scheme, they will lose their Scrapie
status and will not be able to return home with you.

Q5. What if I am unhappy with the price that my goats sell for during the auction?
When entering your goats into the auction, you can set a reserve price (i.e., the minimum price you would be happy with). As such, if you're not happy with the price that your goats achieve and they don't meet their minimum reserve, you can take them home with you (provided that you are not on the Scrapie monitoring scheme).
Q6. Where can I find the entry forms?
You can find entry forms from the Melton Mowbray Market website. Please see the link above which will take you directly to the booking page, or click here.
Q7. What if I am late to the sale?
If you're a little late to arrive at the sale, don't worry; while judging for the show aspect of the sale starts earlier, stock can still be penned if you arrive late until the commencement of the sale, but you may miss the chance to have your stock judged.
Q8. Will there be rosettes for show winners?
Yes! Rosettes are available for winners in each class as well as overall best in show and reserve best in show.
Q9. I have further questions about the sale before I enter my goats. Who can I contact?
Our team here at BBMGA would be pleased to help with any questions you might have; please contact our secretary for further support (or contact the market directly if you have questions about their protocols).
